The Journey Begins

My name is Michael Wesley Fitz and I am a Junior  pursuing a Mass Communications degree at Texas Wesleyan. I would like to be the Public Relations Manager for the City of Fort Worth, or an E-Sports broadcaster. The former being a more stable and lucrative career that involves being the public face of the entire city and reviewing statements the city puts out to the public or to companies under contract to make sure the messages are clear, concise and portray the City in the best possible light. Being an e-sports announcer just seems like a lot of fun. You literally get paid to watch people play video games and yell excitedly on ESPN about what you’re watching. There is some analysis that has to be done as any sports announcer, but I have a background as an Operations Intelligence Analyst in the United States Air Force, which not only gives me experience in analysis but a unique view on world events as well.

I am happily married to my wife Gaylin Elizabeth Fitz and we have 2 incredible children, Jasmine Earth Fitz (the one sharing my photo) who is 4 and just started Pre-K, and Benjamin Mercury Fitz who is 5 months old. Jasmine is named after the famous Disney Princess and Benjamin is named after Benjamin Franklin and Freddie Mercury of QUEEN fame. We also have a 7 yr old dog named Kona and she is a mutt of 21 different breeds, according to the DNA test we had done on her. She is such a sweetheart and is absolutely wonderful with the kids.

I met Gaylin while in the Air Force, we were both Ops Intel and she was stuck in a windowless vault and couldn’t get away, so I decided that was the best chance I had. Luckily she said yes and that was 5 yrs ago. We got married in the Jail in downtown Ft Worth because the JoP that was supposed to marry us in the beautiful courthouse, was sick and the other JoP on Duty has his office in the building that houses the jail.

The Air Force isn’t my only exposure to the military though, I was raised on military bases growing up. My dad is a retired Master Gunnery Sargent (MGYSgt/ E-9) in the United States Marine Corps and was the one who told me to join the Air Force. My mother also served in the Navy and I have many family members and a long family history of serving. I was also in the Platoon Leadership Course (PLC) program for the Marine Corps and trained with the US Army for two months at Ft Riley, KS with the First Infantry Division, known as The Big Red 1, before deploying to Afghanistan with the Army as an operations and human intelligence agent.  My wife also deployed a few years later, but at the same base I was at. She deployed with the Air Force though, and our missions were very different.
